Social Media is a powerful new tool designed for connection and presentation. But why is it such an important tool for those who use it? If we look deep into the richness of social media, we can learn how to use it for our advantage in advertising or marketing.
Reason #1: Bridge between Ages
When we think about social media, we tend to think about those we are following or are friends with. Depending on the dynamics of the person in question, these followers and friends may be of all different ages and backgrounds. For example, a 30 year old woman may have friends of all ages on Facebook, but more of friends her age on Instagram or Snapchat. This is what makes social media so unique. For each different medium, there are different levels of connection and variation between the different aspects of identity. The more a person understands these dynamics, the more they can use them to benefit them.
Reason #2: Reaches beyond Distance
How many times have you tried to talk to someone across the room and they couldn't hear? Or even wanted to send mail from a far distance, but it takes too long to receive a reply? These things are what makes social media so interesting. A snapchat sent from someone across the world could be received by the other person in seconds, and vice versa. We can learn to work with this in order to connect with those we couldn't normally connect with, such as people of the same age demographic, but in a foreign country. Social Media creates a tool for connection, regardless of distance or age.
Reason #3: Connection and Advertising
One more question. How many times have you scrolled through Instagram and saw an advertisement that was so specific someone either had to be in the conversation, or had to have read your mind? Ads that are formulated for social media can be aimed at a large group of people that all relate to a common goal, can reach more people. Social Media also can use more dynamic ads, that use more relatable content with people that the use will know.
